Localized Version of Sanctum's AppShield 3.1 Available to
Japanese Market through Hitachi Joho
SANTA CLARA, CALIF. October 29, 2001 -
Sanctum, Inc., the established leader in Web application security software, today
announced the availability of AppShield 3.1 software to the Japanese market
through its partnership with Hitachi Joho (Hitachi Information Systems, Ltd.,
[TSE: 9741]). Hitachi Joho, a leading solution provider to the enterprise
network systems market, has joined development and distribution forces with
Sanctum to offer an international version of AppShield 3.1 throughout Japan.
AppShield enables Japanese e-Business, and those companies providing security services
to e-Business, to effectively protect the most vulnerable layer of their online
enterprise, the Web application. In addition, Sanctum also announced today that
Hitachi Joho will begin distribution later this year of AppScan 2.5, the
most comprehensive application vulnerability assessment tool on the market.
"Application-level attacks are a serious global problem as evidenced by the recent
outbreak of worms such as Code Red and NIMDA. Executives around the world are
realizing they must stop attacks to their mission-critical digital assets before
a hacker can virtually hijack a customer's information, corrupt their backend
systems or deface their site," said Peggy Weigle, CEO of Sanctum. "Hitachi Joho
will bring the first application security solution to Japanese e-Business with
the necessary distribution, training and support needed locally. We are extremely
pleased to partner with Hitachi Joho for Sanctum's global expansion for
both AppShield and AppScan."
AppShield 3.1-J is generally available for distribution on October 31. The international
version of AppShield has been built with support for Japanese language Web sites.
The first and only solution to provide eBusinesses and service providers with
around-the-clock, automatic protection against all types of Web application attacks,
AppShield effectively secures Web sites by detecting attempted breaches, blocking
access to the application, logging the attackers actions and IP information,
and alerting administrators to all attack attempts.
"Hitachi has been impressed with Sanctum's world class solutions since the onset
of our partnership earlier this year," said Masato Terada, CTO of Hitachi, Ltd.
e-Service & Business Development Division. "During the beta test, we got hundreds
of hits from Code Red and Nimda during their first appearances. AppShield detected
these worms immediately and completely protected our site from them. AppShield is
a must-have for e-Businesses; the product can protect the Web sites not only
from old, known attacks but also from new, unknown attacks, ensuring the integrity
of the organization."
Hitachi Joho will further strengthen its security product offering by
distributing Sanctum's AppScan 2.5 vulnerability risk assessment product. AppScan
extends Web application security audits through all stages of the application
life cycle, allowing developers, operation managers and security consultants
to automatically assess the level of vulnerability in the actual Web applications
and offers a 500% improvement in efficiency over manual auditing techniques. Used
in conjunction, the two products combine to form an offensive-defensive security
architecture that enables enterprises to focus developer resources on new products
and services rather than debugging and patching existing applications.
