| | Hitachi Information Network to Distribute Sanctum's AppShield to Japanese Market

SANTA CLARA, CALIF. and TOKYO, JAPAN - May 29, 2001 -
Sanctum, Inc., the established leader in Web application control and security software,
today announced global expansion through a partnership with the Hitachi Information
Network, Ltd. (HINET). A leading solution provider to the enterprise network systems
market, HINET will extend distribution of Sanctum's AppShield 3.0 to Japan, enabling
more companies worldwide to effectively protect the most vulnerable layer of their
	   eBusiness, the Web application.

"Computer intrusion and malicious cybercriminal activity is an international problem
that business executives need to take more seriously," said Peggy Weigle, CEO of
Sanctum. "Hitachi's distribution of Sanctum's AppShield in one of the world's leading
markets is a necessary first step towards recognition and adoption of preventative
security measures at the application level. Through this partnership and subsequent
global expansion, Sanctum will solidify its leadership position in the Web
	  application security industry."

HINET will work with Sanctum to distribute AppShield licenses to its Japanese
customer base, as well as provide further engineering support and localized
product development. The first and only solution to provide eBusinesses and
service providers with around-the-clock, automatic protection against Web
application attacks, AppShield secures Web sites by detecting, blocking,
logging and alerting administrators to any type of Web-enabled security breach.
AppShield enables enterprises to focus developer resources on new products and
services rather than debugging and patching existing applications.

"In January and February of 2001, more than 200 Japanese Web sites, including
global companies, financial and government institutions, and universities, fell
prey to Web site defacements," said Mr. Kobaysashi, President of Hitachi Information
Network, Ltd. "In order to defend against all types of Web application-enabled breaches,
including data theft, e-commerce fraud and site defacements, businesses must take
a proactive security stance to address the threat and prevent the problem before
it's too late. Sanctum's AppShield complements HINET's current product offering,
extending our security solutions beyond the network, to the application itself."

"eBusiness application security is an ongoing problem that remains virtually
untapped, both in the U.S. and internationally,' said Pete Lindstrom, senior
analyst for Hurwitz Group. "Although malicious Web security breaches are on
the rise, companies are still not devoting enough time and resources to secure
every level of the eBusiness, from the network to the application. With Sanctum's
AppShield, Hitachi will be able to deliver eBusiness application security solutions
to the Japanese market, offering global companies a new way to defend against
	   browser-launched cybercrime."

Sanctum and HINET will jointly present the new product offering at next week's
Network + Interop 2001 Tokyo event, Makuhari Messe (Nippon Convention Center).
For more information on the partnership, visit the HINET booth (#8A13) during
	   the show, June 6 - June 8, 2001.
