AppShield Appliance Enables Rapid Deployment of Secure Web Applications at Lower Total Cost of Ownership
Santa Clara, CALIF. March 3, 2003 -
Sanctum, Inc., the established leader in Web application security solutions, today announced
the general availability of the AppShield application firewall appliance, a critical
component of SUN's iForce Perimeter Security Solution platform. The integration
of Sanctum's AppShield 4.0 into Sun Microsystems' SunFire Server platform provides
complete application level protection within an enterprise environment. As a single,
integrated defense system, the AppShield appliance enables users to quickly deploy
multi-layered security to protect their vital business information and networks against
malicious attack and corruption. The solution's rack-optimized platform simplifies
deployment and management of security systems, helping enterprises to immediately
realize the benefits of reduced administration costs and increased protection
of their digital assets.
The AppShield family of appliances, based on SUN's SunFire hardware platform, comes
pre-installed with a hardened version of the Solaris Operating Environment,
Sanctum's AppShield software and an optional SSL card. Sanctum will offer four different
appliance models to meet the requirements of both small and large enterprise environments,
including the most demanding heavy-transaction, high-performance application environments.
The AppShield appliance seamlessly integrates with all iForce partners including
Check Point Software Technologies, Symantec, e-Security, Trend Micro and Tripwire to form
an all-in-one security solution to meet any size enterprise's unique security requirements.
AppShield, also available from Sanctum as a standalone software version, provides a
failsafe defense against all application-level breaches. AppShield allows for easy
application deployment in a secure environment by intelligently identifying the
legitimate requests made of an e-business site and permitting only those actions
to take place, enforcing the Web and business logic of the site. Through a secure proxy
architecture and centralized Java-based management console, AppShield creates policy
across an entire site and maintains application behavior 24/7 without the need
for signatures or rules.
"Enterprises now recognize that application security is a necessity to effectively
protect against the wide range of potential cyberattacks, including identity and
intellectual property theft," said Steve Orrin, chief technology officer, Sanctum, Inc.
"By joining forces, Sun and Sanctum are delivering the power and security of
SUN servers together with the leading Web application firewall. Customers can now rely
on an integrated, best-in-class security appliance that assures complete
application protection."
